Training Courses

The Training courses offer an overview of the models of Gifted and Talented Education, Twice Exceptionality and Gifted Undearachievement developed in the last fifty years in America, deepening the knowledge of the approach to the development of talent and individual potential through the use of numerous strategies, including: acceleration, enrichment, compaction, curriculum differentiation and double differentiation. The training path allows you to acquire an in-depth knowledge of the SEM Model: an inclusive teaching model for the development of talent that allows you to infuse enrichment activities within the school curriculum taking into account the strengths and interests of the student, developing the Skills of the 21st Century.

Contents

The training is divided into two modules with frontal lessons and an interactive and laboratory work method, with the possibility of possible support and monitoring of teachers in the classroom. The courses allow you to discover and learn how to use the tools of the SEM Model in the classroom. In the laboratory activity modules, teachers have the opportunity to use skills and tools of the SEM Model, simulating the activities designed by an Enrichment Team of Enrichment, Acceleration, Compaction Activities, filling in Modules and Evaluation Scales for an initial cognitive investigation of the students' potential. It is also possible to request a support activity at the Schools in the implementation process of the SEM Model.

Instruments

Teachers are introduced to the use of the Renzulli Learning System: a software that allows them to create an Electronic Profile to identify: the strengths, interests, learning styles and expression styles of students, facilitating the personalization of learning (www.renzullilearning.com). Teachers can also try the Cebeci Creative Potential Test, which allows them to evaluate the creativity of students, measuring the 4 main creative dimensions: Fluidity, Originality, Elaboration and Flexibility. With a view to personalizing and differentiating learning, teachers learn how to compact the school curriculum, eliminating the contents previously learned by the student and replacing them with more advanced activities, preventing boredom and school disaffection.

The Training Courses are held by Dr. Lara Milan, Ph.D. Specialist in Gifted and Talented Education, 2nd Specialist and SEM Specialist, titles obtained at the University of Connecticut, The Bridges Graduate School of Cognitive Diversity and at the University of California, Irvine, USA. The SEM Model was implemented for the first time in the Italian Public School by Dr. Milan during her PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Pavia.
